This is the Ahha CUI
Stack 1000 line threading encoder.
The shaft diameter is 1/4"
and the OD is approximately
1.5" |
I needed to
design an adapter which would
mount this encoder on the
headstock of the lathe and not
interfere with the normal
operation of the lathe.
|
|
|
|
|
This is
a stock image of the Sherline
lathe which I will mount this
encoder. The mount will work on
all versions of the Sherline
lathe. |
The encoder mount
will also function on the Sherline
mill for any operation where you may
need to position the spindle in
conjunction with a programmable
spindle speed control.

|
Here you
can see the flag shaped mounting
plate which clamps on the outside
diameter of the encoder.

Here you
can see that the adapter plate
is attached to the Sherline
spindle housing with 2 button
head screws. |

Here is
the front view of the belt cover
that I designed and fabricated.
|
|
|
|
|
|
In this
view of the belt cover you can
see that the cover has been
hogged out leaving a standoff
which locates the cover to the
adapter plate and provides a
means to rigidly screw the cover
in place. |

An additional spacer was
needed to fill the space between
the encoder mount plate and the
belt cover. |

In this
view you can see the CPC
connector that has been
installed between the DC motor
and the factory speed control.
This connector allows the stock
speed control to be disconnected
and the motor to be connected to
the programmable 4 quadrant
drive which is controlled by the
CNC system. |
