MagTek Controller
These pictures are of 1 of 4 control systems built that are capable of controlling 4
axis of stepper motors, 4 bi-directional DC motors, and 8 channels of logic level control
signals. There are 12 logic level inputs into the software and there is some circuitry to
condition the signal from 6 optical sensors. This system is used in conjunction with the
Artisan CNC Software to automate mechanisms designed at MagTek Inc. for general testing
and evaluation as well as wear testing and life cycle testing.
The powerful macro programming language built into Artisan makes it very easy to monitor
sensors, control the DC motors, and the ability to incorporate standard G-Codes into the
macros, controlling the 4 stepper motors is also very simple. Wish I had had one of these
to go with my Erector Set when I was a kid!
Overall, the powerful, incredibly flexible and easy to use Artisan software has provided
the technical staff at MagTek Inc. with a timesaving solution to automation. There was no
complex PLC software and hardware to buy, the system is simple to maintain and easy to
adapt to most any automation task.
