I am building a total of 3 wheeled platforms for 3 Costco (Lifetime brand) 8’ x 7.5’ sheds. I will build a fourth platform for the current 8’x 8’ Keter shed from Costco many years ago.

The location for these sheds requires that they be above the paver deck due to rain water drainage. Currently the shed is on the deck and it creates a dam which floods the patio during heavy downpours.  I want to be able to occasionally move the shed to clean under it so it makes sense to put them on wheels.

Shed weight is about 354 lbs. and i’m estimating that the wheeled platform will weigh about 350 lbs. probably less once the wood dries out.

Solidworks estimates that the wood only is 285 lbs.

If the weights hold true I should have a load capacity limit of about 3000 lbs. which should be more than enough for the items I intend to potentially store inside.

paver deck

Thia is the paver deck where the sheds will be located. The water drains to the right rear corner. Currently there are a couple sheds sitting on the deck in the far right corner and they acts as a dam to the water during heavy downpours.

Having the sheds on wheeled platforms will allow the water to drain freely  while keeping the bottom of the shed dry.

The wheels will allow me to move the sheds occasionally during cleanups and to seal the pavers when necessary.

Here you can see the standing water and the slot drain at the end of the deck. When this photo was taken there was an obstruction in the drain outlet slowing the water drainage?

I love it when a plan comes together!

Eye bolts installed on the front of the deck to facilitate moving the shed.

Additional 2” thick blocking was milled and installed but not shown in these photos. This facilitates the screw schedule for the interior field.

Liquid Nails Subfloor construction adhesive was used to seal the edges of the plywood as well as providing additional strength for the floor sheeting.

Used the router and flush trim bit to cut out the wheel well openings. Sure beat using the jigsaw and transferring all of the measurements!

The shed platform with 2 coats of copper brown wood preservative. This should keep the bugs from taking up residence within the wood framing and devouring the wood pulp!

Displacement FEA: 3200 lbs. surface load plus 300lb. ft 2 point load over 2x4 pressure blocked edge

Displacement FEA:

300lb ft2 point load centered on pressure block 2x4 edge.

Max deflection in simulation is about 0.010”

Displacement FEA:

300lb ft2 point load centered on beam edge.

Max deflection in simulation is about 0.006”

Measured deflection without sheeting screwed down using ~500 lb. point load is about 1/8 inch while bouncing up and down.

Once we finished building the platform, installing the shed and loading ~500 lbs. of “Stuff” into the shed, Tyoer and I stood in the opening of the shed while Arlene measured the deflection of the front support wheel beam. Total movement was less than 1/16 “.

We also stood on the right side and bounced and the movement was less than 1/8”

While these measured deflections are higher than the computer simulations, the shed platform is very manly to say the least!

Will be interesting to see how difficult it will be to move the shed once its fully loaded!
