After 2 years of collecting dust I finally removed the globe party lights and installed the Minka Aire Concept 1 ceiling fans that have been collecting dust in the garage.

There was a slight mis communication between the Boss and I and I wasn’t planning on re installing the globe lights!

I lost the globe light argument and after another 50 trips up and down the ladder I had them reinstalled and looking pretty good after figuring out an even spacing that worked without landing on a ceiling fan as that would drive my OCD into overdrive!

First fan up and test fired! Second fan up awaiting blades. 3rd fan, missing the down rod and ball….

After calling around, I found that the Torrance Lamps Plus had a spare ball but no standard 6” down rods so I upgraded all 3 fans to 12” down rods which I feel lets them circulate the air much better.

2 Fans running, first fan has a controller failure causing the light not to work right out of the box. I called Minka Air and the sent me a replacement controller which I will install one of these days!

My setup for testing the fans, kind of a nightmare for electrical connections at the edge of a pool!

But it could always be worse!

I dug through my leftover electrical parts and come up with jest about everything I needed, Seal tight conduit, single and double surface mount water tight enclosures, a water resistant while in use outlet cover. After a quick trip to Home depot, I picked up a dual water tight switch kit to replace the single already installed.

Here is the upgraded dual switch and seal tight conduit. I wish I had taken the time to snap a couple photos of the wiring inside. All the wires have terminals crimpled with military grade crimpers and everything is properly grounded.

Hidden in the weatherproof outlet cover box is a 20 amp AC outlet and a 4 port usb hub for charging cell phones etc.

Seal tight flexible conduit was used to connect the switched outlet up in the rafters and fans to the supply on the wall. The first piece of conduit was swapped out after the party lights went back in as my original wiring scheme changed significantly to accommodate wiring both the fans and party lights to their own switches.

After hanging half of the light and tywrapping the coiled cords in place I was not happy with the unkempt look of things. I found some old tomato stakes (dowel rods) that fit inside the coiled cord nicely and allowed me to clean up the appearance significantly!

Using the dowel rods also cut down on the number of tywraps needed to hold things in place also helping the appearance!
